A blessing box has been installed at the south edge of the Hope Restoration Church parking lot at 125 Baum Street.
Its purpose is to be a place where a person in need can obtain some non-perishable food and/or toiletries when they do not have the money to purchase them. The blessing box is also a place where someone who would like to give back to the community can donate items.
The idea to help others and to give back to the community was inspired by Deb Carmicheal, who donated to the blessing box in Kendallville and saw the need for one in Avilla. She put the idea on Facebook and Brian Carroll volunteered to construct the box. Josh Detro, from Hope Restoration Church, gave permission to locate the box on their property, safely under a street light at the edge of their parking lot.
The box was installed by Avilla Utilities on April 12, 2021, and has been filled with items. The box will remain unlocked so those in need can receive items and those who wish to donate can place items.
Monetary donations will not be accepted, only non-perishable food items and toiletries. If you wish to donate items and see there is not enough space in the box to add them, you can contact Hope Restoration Church at 260-897-3627 to have them stored until there is space to be distributed.
