In August, Avilla Town Marshal Glen Wills requested that the Avilla Police Department invest in Spillman’s countywide computer system software for dispatch. This system will upgrade the current one and will be installed on the department’s new laptop computers.
After having the town’s attorney look over the terms of the contract for the software, the Town Council unanimously approved the purchase in October.
This improvement enables the Avilla law enforcement team to maintain and enhance their current data and communications. This investment will also help them to perform tasks more effectively and efficiently.
In November’s Town Council meeting, the department was given the approval to purchase a used patrol car from the Albion Police Department. With this purchase, the department will be able to replace a current spare K-9 patrol car, that will at a later date, be auctioned off to the public.
Currently, the Avilla police have a total of eight patrol vehicles, in which only two have been purchased as new, in the year 2007.
